Today Thurston and I went to Aardvark Letterpress to print the gift certificates for the store and we got to participate from start to finish! We even got to have a Langer's pastrami sandwich during lunch break!
The Typesetter! Lots of moving parts and incredible to watch.
Molten lead in the typesetter
Scrap lead
The proofer. Letterpress kicks a computer print out any day, even at this stage! It made me want to print leaflets and books and I just was blown away at how great it looks and the ease with which these guys produced such beautiful work. They use these machines with the same ease and knowledge that I used to use the faculty xerox machine in grad school, quick and precise. Thurston and I had a great time.
